Delta Sigma Theta
About
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 dynamic undergraduate women. These young women wanted to use their collective strengths to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to persons in need. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. We have a membership of over 200,000 college-educated women in over 900 chapters located in the United States, Japan, Germany, Bermuda, Haiti, Liberia, the Bahamas, the Republic of Korea and the Virgin Islands. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization's Five-Point Program Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement
In March of 1913, our founders performed their first public act participating in the march for women's suffrage in Washington D.C. Deta Sigma Theta Sorority was incorporated into a national organization in 1930, and has continued it's long and glorious history of educational, cultural, political, and social service in the publics interest.
