About

Upon joining the Microbiology and Immunology Department, students gain automatic membership in the Microbiology and Immunology Club. We meet year-round to interact on a regular basis, with a focus on supporting each other as peers, discussing science in a relaxed, informal setting, and having some fun now and then!

At the beginning of each academic year, we elect new officers who guide the club’s endeavors for the year. We also elect student representatives to our department’s Graduate Affairs Committee, which enables us to maintain direct and regular communication with the faculty in the department about issues concerning graduate students and our graduate program.

As an official club within UB’s Graduate Student Association (GSA), we have access to the many GSA-sponsored events on- and off-campus, and also receive funding to support activities of our choosing. Senate representatives from our club attend the monthly GSA Senate Meeting to stay informed about issues that affect all graduate students at UB.

We are a very active club and hold a variety of events and regular-scheduled gatherings throughout the year, including the following examples:

  • Monthly informal “Data Club”
  • Host a student-selected investigator for the Departmental Seminar Series
  • Host a student-selected investigator for the Buffalo Conference on Microbial Pathogenesis
  • Hold practice sessions for students going through qualifying exams
  • Spring Picnic
  • Other activities in collaboration with clubs from other departments within the Biomedical Sciences
