About
The Multicultural Nursing Student Association (MNSA) at the University at Buffalo School of Nursing is a student run-organization that seeks to promote diversity throughout the undergraduate nursing student body. The ultimate goal of this is to prepare students to tackle the important concept of providing culturally sensitive nursing care. As nurses, we are called upon to treat and diagnose the human response to illness. The human response is greatly affected by the patient's culture, which is comprised of a wealth of components including family interactions, religious beliefs, upbringing, own health perceptions and personal life experiences. Culture cannot be defined solely by one's ethnic background, as it is traditionally conceived. That is why each person, each student at the UB School of Nursing, each patient, has a unique culture that must be assessed by the nurse in order to provide competent, quality, holistic care.
Regardless of one's heritage, minority or not, everyone has a culture. MNSA welcomes all students, of all backgrounds and all disciplines. Let your voice be heard and help yourself grow as a student, as a nurse, and as a person.
