About
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., (ΩΨΦ) is a social fraternity and is the first African-American national fraternal organization to be founded at a historically black college. Omega Psi Phi was founded on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C.. The founders were three Howard University juniors, Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman, and their faculty adviser, Dr. Ernest Everett Just. Each of the founders graduated and went on to have distinguished careers in their chosen fields.There are chapters located worldwide where their main duty is service to mankind. Each chapter have mandated programs that have to be done in order to remain active and function as a registered chapter.
In 1946 Phi Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., was organized on University at Buffalo. in 1977 Omega Psi Phi became the first black fraternity to be reinstated on the campus of the University at Buffalo and in 1980 its Omega's light was extended to Buffalo State college.
The charter members of the Phi Epsilon Chapter are Thomas A. Tally, Edgar Quarles, Walter J. Givens, William Sims, James Barney, Jesse E. Nash, William Melvin, James Dunn, James Bell, and Archie Hunter.
