Pilots Association

About

The University at Buffalo's Pilots Association is a student organization consisting of pilots, pilot’s in training, and aviation enthusiasts. Our mission is to make basic flight training available to the general student body through our club’s flight simulators located at Bell 330. During these open simulator hours, we have knowledgeable fellow aviation enthusiasts, available to train any UB student that have the interest or desire to learn how to fly. We don’t treat our simulators like video games. We provide flight instruction based on a syllabus we developed, from the FAA requirements for the private pilot’s license. The instruction we provide here can be transferred to the real world.

We are successful as a club because we bring together a very diverse group of people. We have licensed pilots who can pass their knowledge and experience to new people that want to learn and fully utilize the potential of our simulators. We have aerospace engineering majors that can build a simulator from just scrap wood, salvaged parts, and old computers. We have one simulator that we have finished with another simulator under construction. We have computer science majors who are working on our web app that will be used as a way to log the experience our pilots gain on the simulator as well as a tool to promote the club. The interactions between these people have many tangible benefits. Our pilots get to practice instructing people with no experience in aviation. This has allowed them to become better communicators and prepare for a career as a flight instructor. The general body benefits by getting free flight instruction.
