UB Sprouts
About
UB Sprouts is a medical student organization with the aim of using gardening as a tool to promote healthy eating habits and lifestyle among fellow medical students and the community. The original Sprouts campus garden was located at UB’s North campus, and then later at South campus. With the advent of the downtown medical campus, we now have the opportunity to continue to build community relationships and further our mission in the heart of the Fruit Belt Neighborhood, as we operate the Future’s Academy community garden.
Our club has three main facets: we work with the UB Center for Urban Studies and various community shareholders to operate the garden during the warmer months, we coordinate cooking demonstrations and nutrition workshops with students in the after school program at Future’s Academy, and this year we successfully executed our first resident wellness session where we emphasized meal-prepping and healthy eating to UB’s first year internal medicine residents.
