Wilderness Medicine Club
About
This club coordinates activities that challenge members to try new things as they learn about delivering emergency care in demanding environments and remote regions.
Medical students, family medicine residents and faculty engage in a variety of fun, team-building activities that emphasize personal and professional growth.
Past excursions have included:
- hiking and camping in Western New York
- rock climbing
- cross-country skiing
- bike trips
Members also take part in service projects, including:
- assisting at the Buffalo Marathon’s first aid tent
- participating in the region’s largest shoreline cleanup
The club frequently hosts gatherings to discuss and learn about wilderness medicine topics. In this collegial environment, members gain an in-depth understanding of the skills needed to deliver emergency care when medical support, back-up and facilities may be hours — if not days — away.
